Dear Students and Parents of Blyth Academy Barrie,

As you are aware, Blyth Academy continues to grow, both domestically and abroad. Our new school in Washington D.C. is now fully operational and we have two new schools opening this autumn: Blyth Academy Florence, in Italy, and Blyth Academy School for Math and Science in Waterloo. As part of this growth and in keeping with Blyth’s commitment to offer accessible pricing, Blyth Academy Barrie will merge with its sister campus in Thornhill.

The 2016/17 academic year will see the emergence of this newly merged school. Barrie students will be offered a place at Blyth Academy Thornhill, along with a daily bus service where demand warrants. Students who do not wish to commute to Thornhill will be able to take advantage of Blyth Academy Online to continue their high school studies.

This change will come into effect in July 2016. In the meantime the Barrie campus will continue with its regular program until the end of the academic year (June 30, 2016) with no disruption to the students. At the end of March, 2016, Laurie Stinson, Principal of Blyth Academy Thornhill, will take over local leadership from Barbara Hayhurst who will be transitioning to Head Office in Toronto.

We will work with families on an individual basis to ensure the best possible transition for September, whether to the Thornhill campus, into Blyth Academy Online or on to other schools. We will do the same with our teachers and staff.

Students are being advised of these changes at the end of class today. Parents are invited to stop by with any questions and are invited to join us for an information session to be held at the campus on Monday, March 7 at 5:00 pm.

We are committed to ensuring that there is no disruption to students at either campus and look forward to a strong finish for this academic year. We want to thank all of our Barrie families and the Barrie community for supporting Blyth Academy over the past four years.

Yours sincerely,

Patrick Shaw
Managing Director
