Here we are in beautiful Florence – our last stop on our journey. Hard to believe how quickly it has flown by!
We arrived yesterday from Rome, an easy bus ride with a quick pit stop for lunch. Our day consisted of unpacking and settling into our Hotel Arizona where the staff welcomed us so very warmly. Teachers held classes for a few hours, before going across the street to our restaurant where the food was plentiful and delicious, and the service was extremely friendly.
Today after classes we had a wonderful walking tour with our North Carolina-born tour guide, Sally, who has been living in Florence for the past three years. She was wonderful with the students and showed us the Christmas market, the famous Ponte Vecchio, and the gorgeous Duomo in the heart of the city. We visited the best places for leather shopping (moms and dads – send in your requests now!) and finished the tour giving the students some time to explore the markets with their friends.
Florence is absolutely stunning; the cobble stoned roads, the plethora of leather vendors, the never-ending gastronomy, the friendly people, and the Christmas decorations on every street.
Soon we will go for dinner and enjoy an evening out with the students. Tomorrow we are off to Venice for a day trip! There are so many great excursions coming up over the next few weeks. That, paired with exams and final projects, it will be a busy time for students – and an incredible time most of all.
We’ll chat soon!
