Jonathan Harms,
Chief Executive Officer
Jonathan brings strong global experience to Blyth Academy’s CEO role, having led education companies and education business units in the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Since 2011 he’s dedicated his focus to the Education industry, effectively managing Online Education businesses and bricks-and-mortar educational institutions. Jonathan has an MBA in Strategy and Marketing from HEC Paris, a Masters in International Business and Japanese from Nanzan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from Biola University.
Kathy Young

Chief Academic Officer

Kathy Young began her career as a mathematics and computer science teacher in the Waterloo Region over 30 years ago, She joined Blyth Academy as the founding Principal of Blyth Academy Waterloo in 2016 and was Head of School for Global High School in 2018/2019. Kathy has led Mathematics departments, been a Vice Principal and a Principal in four of Waterloo region’s largest secondary schools and led students in their studies in Europe and South America during summer programs over many years. In 2010, her school community nominated her, and she subsequently received, the Stewart Award for Teacher Excellence. Kathy has an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario.

Jack Pulkinen

Jack Pulkinen,
Jack is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Blyth Academy. He is certified as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and has extensive financial experience working with both public and private enterprises, including senior executive experience in a number of large and small companies in a wide range of industries. Jack specializes in developing and implementing strategic plans and working with complex, diverse organizations. In his free time, Jack likes to hit the green for a round of golf.

Spencer Semple - Vice President, Admissions and Marketing

Spencer Semple,
Vice President – Admissions & Marketing

Spencer leads the admissions and marketing functions at Blyth Academy. He brings over 13 years of sales and marketing experience to the role, with 9 years spent leading admissions and marketing teams around the world for organizations such as Hult International Business School, EF Education First and GEMS Education. Spencer is passionate about digital marketing and transforming businesses through technology. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Economics from Carleton University and a Master of Science in Management, Strategy and Leadership from Michigan State University’s Eli Broad School of Business. Outside the office, Spencer is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys scuba diving, hunting and angling.


Sarah Mastroianni
Sarah Mastroianni,
Director of Projects and Property Administration
Sarah Mastroianni is the Director of Projects and Property Administration, at Blyth Academy. Sarah’s career has focused on various aspects of international education and youth development programs. She holds a B.A. from Queen’s University, an M.A. from the University of Toronto and most recently completed a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from Seneca College.
Alissa Cooke - HR Manager, Blyth Academy

Abosede Ogunseye,
HR Manager
Abosede Ogunseye heads the Human Resources function at Blyth Academy. Her extensive background includes talent management, talent recruitment, training, development, compensation management, HRIS administration and employee relations. She brings with her a Masters in Business Administration from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration from University of Windsor and is finalizing her CHRP Designation and Six Sigma Certification.

Ian Hughes
Principal of Blyth Academy Burlington
Ian Hughes is the Principal of Blyth Academy Burlington. He received his Undergraduate degree at The University of Western Ontario and obtained his Postgraduate Certificate in Education at London South Bank University in England. During his time as a math teacher and Head of Year in the English system, he taught, counselled and mentored students, trained and developed new and experienced teachers and helped to develop curriculum and policy within the school.

Adam Hurley - Principal of Blyth Academy Downsview Park
Adam Hurley,
Principal of Blyth Academy Downsview Park
Adam Hurley is the Founding Principal of Blyth Academy’s Downsview Park School for Elite Athletes. Previously he was the Principal of one of the first sport-focused academies in Ontario. Adam has earned a B.P.H.E. and B.Ed. from the University of Toronto and is currently completing an the University of Toronto in Educational Leadership & Policy.

Laurie Foley,
Principal of Blyth Academy Etobicoke
Laurie Foley is Principal of Blyth Academy’s Etobicoke Campus. In the preceding five years, she led Blyth Academy’s Thornhill campus as Principal. Prior to her tenure at Blyth Academy, Laurie taught at both the elementary and secondary levels working with junior, intermediate and adult learners. She has also worked in curriculum and policy development for both traditional and online high schools. Laurie has a B.A. from Glendon College and a B. Ed. from Nipissing University.

Michael Booth

Principal of Blyth Academy Lawrence Park & Orbit
Michael Booth is Principal of Blyth Academy’s Lawrence Park and Orbit Campuses. Previously he taught undergraduate courses at Northwestern University, Loyola University and Indiana University while pursuing a Ph.D. in Film Studies. Michael has a B.A. from McGill University and an M.A. from New York University.

Sheila Robitaille
Principal of Blyth Academy London
Sheila Robitaille is currently Principal of the Blyth Academy London campus. She was also the Principal of the Blyth Academy Ottawa campus from 2013-2016. She brings 25 years of experience as an educator in various roles including teacher, Magnet School Coordinator, Professional Development Specialist, Technology Integration Coach, Director of Innovation and Learning, Marketing and Admissions Coordinator and Head of School. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Houston and a M.Ed. in Education Administration from Sam Houston State University.

Jennifer Quong
Principal of Blyth Academy Mississauga
Jennifer Quong is the principal of Blyth Academy Mississauga overseeing the Adamson and Cawthra campuses. Previously, she was a principal in Calgary, Alberta and brings with her years of experience in mentorship and school leadership. Jennifer has experience teaching in all levels from elementary to secondary school and has experience working with numerous committees focusing on assessment practices, curriculum development, and leadership development. She achieved her BA degrees from the State University of New York and her MSED from the University of New England.

Kristy Larose
Principal of Blyth Academy Ottawa
Kristy Larose is principal of Blyth Academy Ottawa. Previously she taught at Western Quebec School Board and Summit School in Montreal, and more recently taught at, and was principal of, two schools at Eastern Shores School Board in Quebec. Kristy has a BA from Dalhousie University, BEd from the University of New Brunswick, as well as an MPE from the University of New Brunswick.

Karen Brierley
Principal of Blyth Academy Whitby
Karen Brierley is the Principal of Blyth Academy Whitby. She received both her undergraduate degree and Post Graduate Certificate in Education at The University of Durham, UK. She taught Mathematics and Psychology for 10 years at The Royal Masonic School for Girls, in addition to counselling and mentoring students as Head of Years 10/11. She undertook her first senior management position in 2005 as Head of Sixth Form. She managed 220 girls and the associated teaching staff, in this section of the school. In 2007 she emigrated to Canada and has worked as a Guidance Counsellor and Head of Year at Trinity College School, Port Hope. In 2018 she joined Blyth Academy Whitby as a guidance counsellor.

Lorie Guest is the Principal of Blyth Academy Waterloo. She previously worked at the Waterloo Region District School Board in various schools as the Head of Business Studies, guidance counsellor and vice-principal. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Education from Western and a Masters of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier. She is also the author of five business and careers textbooks used across Canada.

Susan Kelley - Principal of Blyth Academy @ CIHA

Susan Kelly,
Principal of Blyth Academy @ CIHA
Susan Kelly is principal at Blyth Academy @CIHA. She has over 18 years of experience in education, and received her Bachelor of Education Honours degree in England at De Montfort University.  Susan began her educational career as a teacher, but her strong leadership skills led her to administrative roles. She has been a private school principal since 2007.

Nathan Bishop - Principal of Blyth Academy Online

Nathan Bishop is the Principal of Blyth Academy Online and is an advocate for education that reaches a wide variety of students and is delivered in the most accessible way possible. He has taught overseas, as well as in Ontario, and has a great deal of experience with technology and innovation in education. Along with his experience in teaching and technology, Nathan also holds additional qualifications in both Guidance and Special Education. Nathan is currently completing the Master of Educational Technology program at UBC.

Though our physical doors remain temporarily closed, the minds of our students stay open. Summer classes are continuing to meet on their regular daily schedules, in virtual classrooms with face-to-face instruction and peer interaction.  The Blyth Academy model of small class sizes, flexible scheduling and individualized approach have enabled us to remain faithful to our standards. Our commitment to ongoing and meaningful communication between school, teachers, students and families has been critical to this effort.

Although our students have transitioned into summer mode and COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, we are looking ahead to what September will hold for our campuses and families.
We want to be clear - our preference and our priority is to get students back to our campuses, but we must ensure this is done in a safe and effective way. While we await official guidance from Public Health and the Ministry of Education, a "return to school" task force has been hard at work putting concrete operational plans in place for all likely scenarios. This includes a full return to campus with safeguards, a blended model of virtual and in-campus learning and the continuation of fully virtual classrooms. All scenarios will provide robust learning and live, daily instruction and interaction with teachers and peers. 
With ten campuses across Ontario, we realize that each one of our schools is a unique space and community. We will be implementing across-the-board policies on hand washing, facility cleaning and social distancing measures. Each school is also prepared to pivot individually based on the guidance of local health authorities and to best serve students and families. 
Our recent survey showed that over 80 per cent of Blyth Academy families are eager to return to campuses, and we are hard at work to prepare for this day. As September's scenario becomes clearer and more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate.
