Blyth Academy

1 day 17 hours ago

Welcome to our second week of getting to know a Student Rep! Everyone say hello to Isabel H!
Hometown: London, Ontario
Current Grade: 12
Blyth Academy Program(s) attended: Grade 9 and 10 England, Scotland, and Ireland, Grand Tour Eastern Europe, Blyth Academy Online, Blyth Academy Florence (in the new year!)
What is one piece of advice you would give to future Blyth Academy International Summers students?: Take every opportunity you can when you are on your program. Take long hikes, go into town and explore local culture, participate in optional excursions. Those early mornings are worth it, and they are the experiences that you will remember most fondly after your program.
What was your favourite part of the program?: Making new friends, and exploring the world with them. Friendships made on Blyth Academy programs are lasting.
In anticipation of your travels to Blyth Academy Florence in Term 3 (February 6-April 20, 2018), what are you looking forward to the most?: I am most looking forward to learning about the culture, language, and people of Italy. Living and studying in another country and learning about local life will give me independence and confidence, and I will gain such a different perspective of the world than I have now. I am so excited to learn as much as I can while in class and exploring the city!
What was your favourite cartoon as a kid?: I loved Pingu.
If you could meet one celebrity, who would it be?: I really want to meet Michael Cera. He seems like a nice guy.

Every week until the summer, we will be introducing you to a new Student Rep to learn what it's like to be on one of our International Programs!
We are happy to introduce you to Callum H!
Hometown: Calgary, AB
Current Grade: 12
Blyth Academy Programs Attended: Cozumel July, Global High School
Favorite part about Global High School: Global High School has brought many outstanding experiences and infinite amounts of excitement. However, if I had to identify one specific feature of Global High School it would be the outstanding teachers and nurturing peers. Everyone is very comforting and everyone likes each other for who they are. It’s a very welcoming environment.

What are you looking forward to the most? Although I am ¾ of the way through my adventure, I am thrilled for Thailand. I hear the religion there is outstanding, and it’s a great way to wrap up Asia as a whole. I will also be doing the scuba diving excursion, which should be very exciting.

What was your favorite part of the program? Without a doubt my favorite part of the program would have to be the amazing, life-long friends that I have made. They are some of the coolest people I have ever met and I continue to talk to them on a daily basis. My friend Nick and I are even planning on being roommates throughout university!

What is your number one vacation destination? Ever since I was young, my parents would take my sister and I to Mexico. However, ever since my International Summers program, Cozumel has never slipped my mind. That program really opened my eyes to what adventure feels like, which ultimately lead me to GHS. My friends and I plan to go back to Cozumel this summer, because of the amazing time that we experienced.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? As a kid I was very intrigued in trains. My parents even took me to the train tracks every Saturday to watch them. I even made a train out of chairs in my living room and I would sit there for hours, imagining I was a conductor.
