Blyth Academy Testimonials

It is difficult for me to express in words what Blyth has done for me this year. It has been the catalyst for a turnaround in nearly every aspect of my life. I went from being constantly bored and uninterested to finding myself in classes that were actually fun. Yes, fun. Student – staff interaction is on a completely different level, and classes which I found intolerable at my previous school are now not only captivating, but some of my best subjects. The differences in marks, attendance, participation and enthusiasm are truly hard to believe, even for me. Regardless of where you are coming from and where you are going, Blyth can do for you what it has for me: everything.

When I first came to Blyth, I was unsure about how I would fit in and enjoy the school. But I quickly came to realize that Blyth was different from any other school I’d been to. The school is small enough that it has a community feel which makes being at school a rewarding and enjoyable experience. The teachers are genuine people who work hard to make class interesting and engaging. Blyth is an amazing place to be and I will really miss it!

A couple of years ago, our daughter Taylor was in the public school system at a local high school in the gifted program. Though some accommodations had been made available to her, she was still struggling on many fronts and severely under-producing considering her potential.
Taylor went from barely being able to get out of bed to attend public school, to having to take a GO train and subway every morning to get to school. We were amazed at her devotion to school considering the travel, and she missed very little time at all over the past few years in comparison to the time she was off while attending school around the corner from our home. Her marks went from mid-range 70’s (at times barely) to high 80’s and 90’s. Blyth gave Taylor the time and attention she needed to figure herself out combined with external counselling that we sought out, and has brought Taylor to a point of preparedness for work-life and post-secondary educational experiences.
The 10-week semesters focused on two courses instead of four were also an immense help for our daughter. The classes were more intense, and without the need to spread time between so many subjects and the deadlines accordingly helped Taylor’s progress. Taylor is a lovely young woman with a bright future full of potential, and is now willing to take responsibility for herself, her choices, her actions, and the path towards her future. We are thankful for the time that was invested in our daughter over the past two years of transition for her.
Kind regards,
Michael & Sheri

Our daughter was lost in a class of 40 at her former school. At Blyth, she has personal attention and her marks reflect her happiness. We are ‘over the moon’ to see her enthusiastically going to school each day! The teachers at Blyth are proactive in their approach to teaching the curriculum. Now she has eight pupils in her class, receives personal attention, and her marks have improved dramatically. I love to see enthusiastic teaching efforts. You guys rock!

My son was diagnosed as being dyslexic. He struggled for three years in the public school system. Knowing he was highly intelligent, I met with Blyth Academy in Burlington. The combination of sports and education has provided my son with a learning environment that is conducive to his snowboard training and competition schedule. Every teacher is supportive and goes above and beyond. I am so grateful that he has the opportunity to attend Blyth. My son went from disliking school to being a happy young man! For that, I thank you!

Attending Blyth was entirely Dakota’s idea. After much advocacy on her part, we came down to an open house. From the moment we stepped in the door, we could feel a wonderful atmosphere and my hope rose up to join Dakota’s.
Grade 12 at Blyth was the best year of Dakota’s educational career. Your school made Dakota’s final year of high school not only a happy and joyful learning experience, but her confidence and belief in her own potential was greatly enhanced. I cannot thank you enough for developing and running such an important school.
Dakota continues in her learning in the fall at Guelph University and thanks to Blyth Academy, she is in good stead in many areas of her life. I cannot thank you enough.

Having tried both private and public schools for the duration of my two children’s education, by far private education offers the student more choice, more guidance and more stability in the programming. Blyth is an example of this type of exceptional learning environment. Blyth offers very convenient and flexible scheduling for the high school student and makes use of this time to help the students transition into the university/college type of independent learning. Why wait till your student enters college or university to get this type of learning and see if they can handle it? The sooner they are independent learners, the more successful they will be in a university or college environment.

We would recommend Blyth Academy to any parents trying to help their child advance to a very competitive post secondary educational system.

Blyth Academy teachers and administration are highly respectful of the student’s academic and personal needs. This is apparent right from the beginning and lasts until after graduation. With this kind of atmosphere students respond positively and it is natural that they are motivated to do their very best.

Blyth Academy International Summers Testimonial:
Thank you again for all the adventures, the knowledge sharing and of course guidance along the Iceland Adventure while Mark was in your care. He had such a wonderful time and learned so much. Last night on the drive home to London he shared stories and so many special moments. As a parent, it was pure joy to watch the twinkle in his eyes and the reflection on his face. Your recap travel blog on the website captivated all that I wanted for my son on this opportunity and more. Thank You. Mark is already hoping and planning for his next Educational Adventure (I understand that you want to take this group of youngsters on a Global Adventure in the future). So until the next time our paths cross, I wish you well.
A very appreciative parent,
Suzanne ten Haaf

Testimonial for Blyth Academy Global High School:
I cannot say enough about Blyth. My daughter attended Blyth Academy Global High School for her grade 12 year last year. She had been bullied in her small rural school as she was very smart and athletic. She was withdrawn, underperformed so as not to be noticed and depressed. Blyth and its wonderful teachers changed her life. She has matured so much and is now on her way to New Zealand where she is starting university at Auckland University. She is the bravest person I know and that confidence came from the best learning experience ever.

Blyth Academy Online Testimonial:
I want to share with you what a positive experience Blyth Academy Online has been for my son. He is in the final stretch of completing his grade 12 college-level math course. Prior to this course taking math at his regular high school was hit or miss depending on the teacher’s style. My son has some learning disabilities and also struggles with anxiety. This course has been very positive for him. We also accessed the 20 hours of skype tutoring with Anne Volpe. Ms. Volpe’s approach and teaching style have been perfect for my son. Not only has he been very successful in the course, but perhaps, more importantly, his self-confidence has returned. He has gone from being very discouraged to now being at a point where he feels confident in his ability to understand math concepts and also is enjoying math. You have a gem in Ms. Volpe’s involvement in Blyth Academy and I would highly recommend her support to other parents. She is a clear communicator and is supportive and very encouraging to her student.
Thank you for providing this service and for the added service of the Skype tutoring.

Though our physical doors remain temporarily closed, the minds of our students stay open. Summer classes are continuing to meet on their regular daily schedules, in virtual classrooms with face-to-face instruction and peer interaction.  The Blyth Academy model of small class sizes, flexible scheduling and individualized approach have enabled us to remain faithful to our standards. Our commitment to ongoing and meaningful communication between school, teachers, students and families has been critical to this effort.

Although our students have transitioned into summer mode and COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, we are looking ahead to what September will hold for our campuses and families.
We want to be clear - our preference and our priority is to get students back to our campuses, but we must ensure this is done in a safe and effective way. While we await official guidance from Public Health and the Ministry of Education, a "return to school" task force has been hard at work putting concrete operational plans in place for all likely scenarios. This includes a full return to campus with safeguards, a blended model of virtual and in-campus learning and the continuation of fully virtual classrooms. All scenarios will provide robust learning and live, daily instruction and interaction with teachers and peers.
With ten campuses across Ontario, we realize that each one of our schools is a unique space and community. We will be implementing across-the-board policies on hand washing, facility cleaning and social distancing measures. Each school is also prepared to pivot individually based on the guidance of local health authorities and to best serve students and families.
Our recent survey showed that over 80 per cent of Blyth Academy families are eager to return to campuses, and we are hard at work to prepare for this day. As September's scenario becomes clearer and more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate.
