About Our Campus

Blyth Academy Whitby is conveniently located in the Durham Region. The school is located in the heart of the old downtown centre of Whitby, close to the Public Library, Peel Park, and plenty of local shops, restaurants, and galleries. This campus is readily accessible with easy bus access and surrounded by municipal pay parking.

Our experienced guidance counsellors work regularly with each student to prepare them for post secondary and beyond, with advice and counselling given during the application and scholarship selection process.

Our school has an average class size of eight which allows our educators to spend significant individualized time with each student while delivering a broad range of courses. What Makes Our Campus Unique?

We have two separate campuses – one for our Middle School students in Grades 6-8, and another for our high school students in Grades 9-12. We are small and caring, which means everyone knows everyone else, and we take care of each other. We are nurturing, while at the same time being academically rigorous, which allows students to see their innate potential. We put students first and treat everyone as an individual.

Message From Our Principal

I would personally like to extend a warm welcome to you and your parents and invite you to come to visit us in the near future. Our school is an outstanding educational environment whose faculty is committed to providing an integrated university preparatory education in a warm and caring setting.

Our students are encouraged to do their best and are given the necessary support to help them, in their studies and beyond. Our teachers are dedicated to ensuring that students gain a complete understanding of the subject matter while making engaging connections outside the classroom and to other disciplines. Our classes are very small and communication between teachers and students is consistent, encouraging and frequent.

What our Families are Saying…

“Blyth has been a real success for our daughter. She will tell you herself it exceeded even her expectations. The educational growth, maturity growth and also a shift in outlook on life that we saw was more than we had hoped for. All that in just one year. This all came from the principal, staff, students and environment that Blyth Academy Whitby delivered. Our daughter found the right place to excel in order to meet the very high and unique requirements she needed in order to attend university in her chosen field. She is, this fall, off to pursue a dream that only 18 months ago seemed out of reach.”

Parent

“Blyth Academy Whitby has done an amazing job of building back my son’s confidence and getting him back on track to grade level as a result of him not being taught the provincial standard at his prior private school. The academic and personal growth that we have seen as a result of the support at Blyth Academy Whitby has provided has been simply amazing. My son, for the first time this year, now in grade 10, has started talking about post-secondary education and focuses on completing homework and assignments at home with little or no involvement from his mother or myself.”

Parent

“Starting grade nine can be stressful at the best of times, but continuing in grade ten after being homeschooled has its own added anxieties. The teachers, staff and the other students at Blyth Academy Whitby took the time to support the transition of our daughter into the school environment. The small campus, small classes and the attendance of other hockey-playing students has made it all that much easier and have helped our daughter to set a strong foundation on which she is building her successful secondary school career.”

Ready to experience the Blyth Academy difference?

Though our physical doors remain temporarily closed, the minds of our students stay open. Summer classes are continuing to meet on their regular daily schedules, in virtual classrooms with face-to-face instruction and peer interaction.  The Blyth Academy model of small class sizes, flexible scheduling and individualized approach have enabled us to remain faithful to our standards. Our commitment to ongoing and meaningful communication between school, teachers, students and families has been critical to this effort.

Although our students have transitioned into summer mode and COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, we are looking ahead to what September will hold for our campuses and families.
We want to be clear - our preference and our priority is to get students back to our campuses, but we must ensure this is done in a safe and effective way. While we await official guidance from Public Health and the Ministry of Education, a "return to school" task force has been hard at work putting concrete operational plans in place for all likely scenarios. This includes a full return to campus with safeguards, a blended model of virtual and in-campus learning and the continuation of fully virtual classrooms. All scenarios will provide robust learning and live, daily instruction and interaction with teachers and peers.
With ten campuses across Ontario, we realize that each one of our schools is a unique space and community. We will be implementing across-the-board policies on hand washing, facility cleaning and social distancing measures. Each school is also prepared to pivot individually based on the guidance of local health authorities and to best serve students and families.
Our recent survey showed that over 80 per cent of Blyth Academy families are eager to return to campuses, and we are hard at work to prepare for this day. As September's scenario becomes clearer and more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate.
