An Update From Your Principal

Greetings Blyth Families!

We can’t thank you enough for all of your support throughout this unprecedented time. We are excited about how well things are going and how we have been able to bring in some fantastic guest speakers (with many more to come)! As we make our way through the month of May, I encourage our students and their families to continue to be physically active! Although we have to ensure we are practicing physical distancing, we are definitely able to complete the daily workouts we post, take on the weekly challenge and work on our sport-specific skills! A healthy body includes a healthy mind and these both can be achieved by getting regular exercise and fresh air! We encourage all students and families to continue sending or posting their workout pictures and videos to Edsby to motivate one another!

Student of the Week
As we wrap up the week we would like to recognize Clare H. as our Student of the Week! Clare has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic in our virtual classrooms and continues to excel in our new model of education! Clare is a very hard working student-athlete and has been attending all of our guest speaker sessions (and even has arranged a couple of them)! Great work, Clare!

Please check Edsby for our special guest speakers for next week!

We will be holding our first Spirit Day on Friday to build a sense of community in this virtual environment and to have a bit of fun! We will be having HAT DAY! We ask that all of our students and staff join their classes wearing a hat (it could be your favourite hat or even a funny hat)!

Weekly Challenge

1-Minute Pushup Challenge (Elementary, High School and Parents!)

Challenge Criteria
– We will deem a winner for our elementary students, high school students and parents (to have some fun :))!
– Record video of you doing as many pushups as you can in 1 minute (make sure to go right to the ground!)
– Post the video in the Weekly Challenge Edsby group!

Wellness Wednesdays
Continue to look out for our Wellness Wednesday videos! These are great opportunities to take a minute to reflect on how things are going and to support your success and well-being. If you ever want an additional wellness activity, feel free to take part in one of the several free daily livestream yoga sessions run by Power Yoga Canada via Instagram and Facebook Live! These are open to anyone so feel free to share to pass this on!

Who’s Most Likely To Question Game!
We hope you have been enjoying our Who’s Most Likely To Question Game that we have been running on Instagram and Facebook! We definitely had some fun ones this week including “Who is most likely to win a rap battle?” Mr. Stellino took the win on this one!

Thanks to all students, staff and parents for all of your hard work this week and ongoing support! Have a lovely weekend!

Though our physical doors remain temporarily closed, the minds of our students stay open. Summer classes are continuing to meet on their regular daily schedules, in virtual classrooms with face-to-face instruction and peer interaction.  The Blyth Academy model of small class sizes, flexible scheduling and individualized approach have enabled us to remain faithful to our standards. Our commitment to ongoing and meaningful communication between school, teachers, students and families has been critical to this effort.

Although our students have transitioned into summer mode and COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, we are looking ahead to what September will hold for our campuses and families.
We want to be clear - our preference and our priority is to get students back to our campuses, but we must ensure this is done in a safe and effective way. While we await official guidance from Public Health and the Ministry of Education, a "return to school" task force has been hard at work putting concrete operational plans in place for all likely scenarios. This includes a full return to campus with safeguards, a blended model of virtual and in-campus learning and the continuation of fully virtual classrooms. All scenarios will provide robust learning and live, daily instruction and interaction with teachers and peers.
With ten campuses across Ontario, we realize that each one of our schools is a unique space and community. We will be implementing across-the-board policies on hand washing, facility cleaning and social distancing measures. Each school is also prepared to pivot individually based on the guidance of local health authorities and to best serve students and families.
Our recent survey showed that over 80 per cent of Blyth Academy families are eager to return to campuses, and we are hard at work to prepare for this day. As September's scenario becomes clearer and more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate.
