An Update From Your Principal

Greetings Blyth Families!

We hope you have had a wonderful week and are ready for a relaxing weekend! Thanks to all families for your continued support! We recognize these are challenging and unprecedented times but I feel we are all realizing what is truly important in our lives; family, safety, health, to name a few! I am also proud to say that we have been seeing an increased level of independence from our students! I am confident that with continued commitment and dedication as we enter Term Four next week, our students will continue to see success and further develop invaluable life and learning skills!

Student of the Week
As we wrap up the week we would like to recognize Kevin Q. as our first Student of the Week! Kevin has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic in our transition to a virtual classroom and continues to flourish academically! Great work, Kevin!

Weekly Challenge
Student Council has decided that the weekly challenge will be creating and videoing the best trick or shot (your sport of choice)! Teachers will vote at the end of the week so get going and post your videos here! Let’s see the competition and skill out there!

1) Video under 30 seconds of a trick or shot in your sport of choice
2) Appropriate attire, language, etc.
3) Be creative!

Below is a video of our former student, Zac Bell, to help get you started with some ideas!

Fitness/Sport-Specific Skills Training
We hope you have been enjoying the daily fitness training programs, sport-specific skills videos, game-film review sessions and guest speakers! We encourage you to attend the weekly game-film and guest speaker sessions to continue to build your skills and knowledge of the game you love! We also continue to encourage you to send us pictures/videos of your workouts/skills training so that we can post them on Edsby and Social Media to motivate one another!

Wellness Wednesdays
Continue to watch out for our Wellness Wednesdays videos in the Fitness Training Edsby group! Thanks to Ms. Charmley for all of her hard work creating these! Take time to watch and learn from them! It is very important to work on mindfulness and focus on well-being during these challenging times! As you’ve learned from many of our guest speakers, the mental aspect of the game is so important so use this time to strengthen that aspect of your game!

Guest Speakers
We have many more exciting Guest Speakers lined up over the next few weeks but due to Exams/PD Days next week, we will not be having any. Stay tuned for some more big names!

Thanks to all students, staff, and parents for all of your hard work this week and ongoing support! Have a lovely and restful weekend!

Though our physical doors remain temporarily closed, the minds of our students stay open. Summer classes are continuing to meet on their regular daily schedules, in virtual classrooms with face-to-face instruction and peer interaction.  The Blyth Academy model of small class sizes, flexible scheduling and individualized approach have enabled us to remain faithful to our standards. Our commitment to ongoing and meaningful communication between school, teachers, students and families has been critical to this effort.

Although our students have transitioned into summer mode and COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, we are looking ahead to what September will hold for our campuses and families.
We want to be clear - our preference and our priority is to get students back to our campuses, but we must ensure this is done in a safe and effective way. While we await official guidance from Public Health and the Ministry of Education, a "return to school" task force has been hard at work putting concrete operational plans in place for all likely scenarios. This includes a full return to campus with safeguards, a blended model of virtual and in-campus learning and the continuation of fully virtual classrooms. All scenarios will provide robust learning and live, daily instruction and interaction with teachers and peers.
With ten campuses across Ontario, we realize that each one of our schools is a unique space and community. We will be implementing across-the-board policies on hand washing, facility cleaning and social distancing measures. Each school is also prepared to pivot individually based on the guidance of local health authorities and to best serve students and families.
Our recent survey showed that over 80 per cent of Blyth Academy families are eager to return to campuses, and we are hard at work to prepare for this day. As September's scenario becomes clearer and more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate.
