Mr. Sam Blyth, CEO and Founder, received a lovely letter from our Global High School Ambassador of Awesome, Lindsay, and we thought we’d share it with all of you!

Dear Sam Blyth,

It has now been almost a month since I’ve arrived home from GHS, and I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on the past year. I just wanted to reach out to you to extend my thanks for this unbelievably amazing opportunity. With your next contest’s voting poll coming to a close (I made my vote the first day!), I have been thinking a lot about Global High School.

You have such a great program that allows teenagers like myself explore and discover our world and the opportunities that come with that. From living and learning in Europe’s culture, museums, architect and history, to stepping out of my comfort zone by sky diving and bungy jumping in Australia and New Zealand, Global High School has given me more than I could have ever dreamed at only seventeen years old. You have helped me discover my passions for biology, philosophy and literature by providing me with the most interesting, involved and thought provoking teachers I have ever had. You have given me the ability to discover my love for parts of the world I would have never otherwise seen yet, like Brisbane and Wellington. Cities that I can now see myself living in later on in life. I have had more life experiences around the globe than the majority of high school students.

While that makes me rather upset to go back to regular high school (nothing will ever compare to GHS), I know I will have so much to bring to my final year of high school classes, much more than being able to memorize their textbooks. But most importantly, you have allowed me to meet the most amazing group of teenagers. Everyone on Global High School has changed my life for the better, there is not one person that I would not consider important to me. Your program attracts so many interesting, intelligent and welcoming teenagers that it was impossible to not bond with each and every one of them. I had a hard time in grades 9 and 10 with the social aspect of high school, and being able to meet such amazing people on Global High School has really changed my life. Everyone was just as passionate about travel as I was, and being able to travel the world and live with these people only made our friendships stronger.

The program you are running has not only changed my life but everyone else’s involved, and for many future years of students lucky enough to take part in it. I cannot thank you enough for this experience, it has opened up so many opportunities and ideas for my life, and I know that it will impact all the future ambassadors to come as well. This was not the last time I will be getting on a plane I can promise you that! After a year of having the honour of being your Ambassador of Awesome, I know I will do whatever it takes to be able to see the rest of the world and all it has to offer. I love your programs and everything they have given me. Once again, thank you for everything.

Lindsay Allinson, your Ambassador of Awesome

Though our physical doors remain temporarily closed, the minds of our students stay open. Summer classes are continuing to meet on their regular daily schedules, in virtual classrooms with face-to-face instruction and peer interaction.  The Blyth Academy model of small class sizes, flexible scheduling and individualized approach have enabled us to remain faithful to our standards. Our commitment to ongoing and meaningful communication between school, teachers, students and families has been critical to this effort.

Although our students have transitioned into summer mode and COVID-19 restrictions have begun to loosen, we are looking ahead to what September will hold for our campuses and families.
We want to be clear - our preference and our priority is to get students back to our campuses, but we must ensure this is done in a safe and effective way. While we await official guidance from Public Health and the Ministry of Education, a "return to school" task force has been hard at work putting concrete operational plans in place for all likely scenarios. This includes a full return to campus with safeguards, a blended model of virtual and in-campus learning and the continuation of fully virtual classrooms. All scenarios will provide robust learning and live, daily instruction and interaction with teachers and peers.
With ten campuses across Ontario, we realize that each one of our schools is a unique space and community. We will be implementing across-the-board policies on hand washing, facility cleaning and social distancing measures. Each school is also prepared to pivot individually based on the guidance of local health authorities and to best serve students and families.
Our recent survey showed that over 80 per cent of Blyth Academy families are eager to return to campuses, and we are hard at work to prepare for this day. As September's scenario becomes clearer and more information becomes available, we will continue to communicate.
